Reaching Little Earth with the gospel through relationships, community, and God’s Word.
Little Earth is home to nearly 1,000 residents, many of whom are children and young adults. It represents a vibrant yet vulnerable part of the urban Indigenous population in Minneapolis.
As the only project-based Section 8 rental assistance community in the United States with a focus on Indigenous residents, it serves as an important hub for support, advocacy, and services for the American Indian community in South Minneapolis. (Source: Little Earth website).
But generations of residents have faced significant challenges including poverty, family instability, addiction, and spiritual brokenness without the hope and healing found in Jesus Christ. While Little Earth is rich in culture, history, and resilience, there remains a deep need for gospel-centered relationships within the community.
The Challenge
Maajiigin Ministries seeks to be a consistent gospel presence in Little Earth – building trust, nurturing relationships, and sharing the hope of Christ through everyday life. “Maajiigin” means “grow” in the Ojibwe language, reflecting our heart to see individuals and families grow in their faith, relationships, and purpose in Christ.
Through presence, prayer, and participation in community life, we partner with Little Earth residents to invest in the lives of youth, nurture spiritual growth, and encourage holistic transformation.
The Opportunity
Our Approach
Maajiigin Ministries serves in several key ways:
Little Earth Boys & Girls Club – Volunteers invest in kids and teens through after-school programming, games, mentoring, and relationship-building. We meet weekdays from 3:00-7:00pm.
Little Earth Sunday School – A weekly gathering for children and youth to hear Bible stories, learn about Jesus, and grow in faith. This is held on Sundays from 3:00-5:00pm.
Little Earth Fellowship – A time for residents to gather for a shared meal, sing gospel songs, and study God’s Word together. We meet on Sundays from 5:00-7:00pm.
Through these rhythms of ministry, Maajiigin creates safe and welcoming spaces where people of all ages can encounter Jesus and experience His love.
Your support ensures that the children and families of Little Earth continue to experience consistent love, discipleship, and community in Christ. You can partner with Maajiigin Ministries by volunteering, praying, or giving financially.
We welcome volunteers to support our weekly activities at the Boys & Girls Club, Sunday School, and Little Earth Fellowship. Your prayers are powerful! Pray for Maajiigin Ministries, the residents of Little Earth, and the volunteers who serve there.
